Setting up the Souq on board the Galaxy.

Women are a minority among the people living on the AZC boat Galaxy in Amsterdam. So we organised something just for them: a Souq for women only.

It was a clothes Souq, and very many of the donated clothes were new. Our volunteers set them out on the shelves and rails on board, and then the women came in to browse and choose what they liked. As at every Souq, everything was free.

A shop space on a ship with shelves and rails of clothes, bags on the wooden floor, and our co-founder and a volunteer setting out clothes.
Shelves of donated clothes, ready for the women.

People were very happy. Most of the donations were gone that same day, and the whole Souq did not take long. It felt like a celebration.

It felt like a celebration.

We want to give people the experience of shopping, the same as anyone has in a shop, and that day the women on the Galaxy had a shop of their own.
