The idea behind the Souq
Souq is the Arabic word for a market or bazaar. Like Thamarat, which means “fruits” or “harvest”, it is an Arabic word, and it says what we want our Souq to be: a place where you look at what is on offer and choose.
A free shop
The Thamarat Souq is not a fundraiser and not a formal event. It is a free shop. We take donations from the community and sort them, and then we open the doors. Anyone who needs something can walk in, browse and take what they want.
There are no price tags and no conditions.
The experience of shopping
What matters to us is how it feels to come in. In a shop you choose for yourself: you walk along the rails, pick something up, put it back, and leave with what you chose. That is what we want to offer the families who come. We want to give them the experience of shopping.
We want to give them the experience of shopping.
So the Souq should feel less like a charity handout and more like an actual shopping experience, because that is exactly the point. No price tags. No conditions. Just dignity. We want people to leave feeling seen, not overlooked.
What you find there
The tables and rails hold what the community gives: clothes and shoes, children’s clothes, toys, accessories and household items. Our team picks up donations from the people who get in touch with us, and everything is sorted before the doors open.
